Why you need to upgrade to an electric appliance when you have an electric refrigerator

A new study suggests that replacing an electric fridge with a newer model could save you money on electricity bills.

Researchers at the University of Queensland, in Australia, looked at the cost of replacing an average gas-powered refrigerator with an electric one, and the amount of electricity savings they found.

Using a computer model of how gas-fired appliances functioned, the researchers calculated how much energy they would use in a typical year.

In a study of the cost savings associated with a new model, the study found that replacing a gas- and electric-powered fridge with an efficient appliance could cost just $6 to $10 a year.

The study also found that the average electricity savings from the new model were more than double the savings that could be achieved with a gas appliance.

The study was published in the journal Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

“We’ve shown that the efficiency of gas- or electric-fired refrigerator is very close to the efficiency that can be achieved using a gas refrigerator,” lead researcher Professor David Skelton told ABC News.

The energy efficiency of the new models was determined by comparing them to existing gas-free models.

“There is no significant difference in energy efficiency between the two, they are the same size, they use the same amount of energy,” Professor Skelson said.

“If you replace an electric unit with a fridge, the electricity price per kilo of electricity is still higher than that from a gas one.””

Professor Skelston said there were some advantages to using a more efficient gas-furnace, including the reduced amount of greenhouse gas emissions from the fuel.””

Professor Skelston said there were some advantages to using a more efficient gas-furnace, including the reduced amount of greenhouse gas emissions from the fuel.

“The efficiency of this gas-based refrigerator is a lot higher than gas-burning appliances because it uses a much smaller amount of fuel to heat the gas,” he said.

“So you get a reduction in greenhouse gas that is very significant.”

The study also showed that the cost to replace an average refrigerator with a modern gas-equipped model could be $1.50 a year, which is roughly 10 per cent lower than the price for a gas model.
